In a pulsating IPL 2025 match, Punjab Kings won by a close 10 runs against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The win places PBKS firmly in the top two spots of the league table, putting them much closer to qualifying for the playoffs. The game was closely fought, exhibiting both sides' competitive nature and tactical play. PBKS displayed grit and calmness under pressure to protect their score, eventually outlasting the Royals in a nail-biting finish.

Punjab Kings played a good game to defeat Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur and get near the playoff position. PBKS posted a huge total of 219 runs with both Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh scoring big numbers. Both the players compiled half-centuries that laid a challenging target before Royals. The openers of Rajasthan played well but were checked by Harpreet Brar's bowling. Before Royals could rally, it was too late to recover.
The turning point of the match came in the middle overs where Rajasthan lost crucial wickets and were unable to keep the score growing rapidly. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi starting well, Rajasthan lost 38 wickets during this period in the IPL, the most by any team. Punjab Kings were extremely powerful in the middle overs with Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer scoring well to take the total forward. This positive work in the middle was the difference between the sides.
At the beginning of the innings, three wickets for Rajasthan Royals were lost in the powerplay in spite of a quick beginning. Priyansh Arya hit a boundary off the first ball after the resumption of the game but departed shortly. New bowler Kwena Maphaka conceded some runs but grabbed an important wicket. Rajasthan's initial hopes were maintained by Jaiswal and Suryavanshi who scored at a brisk rate and shocked Punjab Kings with 39 runs off only 12 balls. The team completed fifty runs within two and a half overs. But the introduction of spin bowling by Harpreet Brar assisted Punjab Kings to take key wickets in the powerplay and middle overs.
Nehal Wadhera excelled in the middle overs with attacking strokes against the bowlers. He greeted Wanindu Hasaranga with two boundaries and maintained the run rate intact. Even after his partnership with Shreyas was disrupted for a while due to a wide delivery, Wadhera soon regained his momentum by striking a six. He made a fifty in a mere 25 deliveries and kept the runs flowing. Shashank Singh then asserted himself towards the end by going big with his shots. Punjab Kings made a quick 72 runs for one wicket in the death overs. Shashank struck 18 runs in a single over against Fazalhaq Farooqi and continued to make crucial runs until the end to reach his individual fifty. This powerful finish helped Punjab Kings put up a total near 220 runs.
Rajasthan Royals began their chase quite aggressively. Jaiswal hit boundaries and sixes from the first over and the pair of Jaiswal and Suryavanshi made runs quickly against the bowling. They scored 89 runs for one wicket in the powerplay, which was their highest in that phase ever. Despite the strong start, the spinners from Punjab Kings slowed the game down in the middle overs and took key wickets. Jaiswal got out just after reaching his fifty and Sanju Samson got out after attempting to play big shots. Brar was able to bowl well and took three wickets to prevent the Royals from making a solid chase.
Royals required 66 runs in the final 30 balls with Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel available to play big shots. The duo maintained the pursuit with some boundaries but lost Hetmyer at a very vital time. With 22 runs short in the final over, Jansen bowled miserly and claimed the vital wicket of Jurel within three balls. Rajasthan Royals were defeated by 10 runs even after some last-minute hitting from Maphaka who hit two rapid boundaries.
Punjab Kings then jump to second position in the league and will face Delhi Capitals at Jaipur. Rajasthan Royals will conclude their season facing Chennai Super Kings in Delhi. The defeat means Royals are likely to finish at the bottom in the table after a poor campaign.
This game highlighted the significance of solid middle overs batting and how effective bowling changes can reverse the game. Punjab Kings utilized these instances to their advantage to dominate the game and emerge victorious. Their solid batting along with Wadhera and Shashank accompanied by the bowling spells of Brar proved to be the difference in an extremely high-scoring encounter. Rajasthan Royals battled well but were unable to maintain the pace after their fast start and went down narrowly.
