Lionel Messi is finally bringing his much-awaited GOAT Tour of India in December and football fans across the country are already buzzing with excitement. The tour has received its final approval and is all set to begin in Kolkata on December 12 before travelling to Ahmedabad Mumbai and New Delhi. The trip is being organised on a grand scale and could also feature some of his Inter Miami teammates such as Rodrigo De Paul Luis Suarez Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets although the final list of names has not yet been confirmed. This will be Messi’s first visit to India since 2011 when he came to play a FIFA friendly against Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

The tour was confirmed by promoter Satadru Dutta who met Messi’s father earlier this year to present the proposal and then held a 45-minute meeting with Messi himself on February 28. After discussing the detailed plan Messi agreed to come and the preparations began. The official poster and announcement from Messi are expected between August 28 and September 1 which will give fans the full schedule and a short introduction about the trip.

Messi will reach Kolkata during the night of December 12 and remain there for the most part of the tour. His first day in the city will see him busy with events right from the morning beginning with a greet-and-meet session at Taj Bengal where there will be a special fusion of Argentine and Indian tea to commemorate his fondness for mate tea. There will also be a food fest offering Bengali staples such as hilsa and sweet treats. In the evening Messi will unveil his largest-ever statue and participate in the GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup which are scheduled to be organized at Eden Gardens or as a fallback at Salt Lake Stadium. Fans will also have a chance to catch a glimpse of a giant 25 feet by 20 feet mural of Messi which will be placed at trendy Durga Puja pandal spots for fans to paint and post messages. The mural will subsequently be gifted to him at the concert.

The GOAT Cup in Kolkata will be a special seven-a-side soft-touch football game where Messi will play with Indian sporting and entertainment celebrities like Sourav Ganguly Leander Paes John Abraham and Bhaichung Bhutia. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will felicitate him during the program. Organisers are expecting a sell-out crowd with ticket prices starting at Rs 3500. Security will be a top priority with both the Kolkata Police and Messi’s team focusing on ensuring a safe and memorable experience for everyone attending.

On the evening of December 13 Messi will fly to Ahmedabad for a private event organised by the Adani Foundation. Then he will proceed to Mumbai on December 14 for a meet-and-greet at the CCI Brabourne. The Mumbai event will also include a GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup at the Wankhede Stadium as well as an inaugural event called the Mumbai Padel GOAT Cup. The sport of padel is played in a covered court using rackets, and Messi loves the game. He will participate in a celebrity padel game at CCI Brabourne for possibly five to ten minutes. Celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan and Leander Paes will join this event.

The Mumbai party will also feature a GOAT moment when Messi will share the stage with cricket icons such as Sachin Tendulkar MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as well as Bollywood celebrities like Ranveer Singh Aamir Khan and Tiger Shroff. Messi will conclude his Indian visit in Delhi on December 15.
