Rahul Dravid Admits Rajasthan Royals' Bowling Needs Improvement
Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid conceded the team's bowling performance, especially during death overs, during their close defeat to Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. He stressed the importance of improved execution and control for improving performance in upcoming matches.

Rajasthan Royals have had a difficult time this season particularly with their bowling. Their head coach, Rahul Dravid, has been vocal about the fact that the bowling team has not performed well. The team has been unable to take wickets and has also struggled to prevent the opposing team from scoring runs with ease. Dravid said that only the batsmen cannot be blamed for the problem as the bowlers also need to be accountable. He believed that the team conceded too many extra runs even when the pitch was not so great for batting. In his opinion the overall runs required to win ought to have been fewer but the bowlers conceded more runs than they were supposed to which made it tough to win.
Dravid also added how Rajasthan Royals have been primarily pursuing targets in their games. In most of the games the targets have ranged between 200 to 220 runs which is a decent score to pursue. The openers have contributed their share by providing a good platform but the middle and lower order batsmen have failed to get the job done. Dravid expressed the team has lost five close games that could have been won in either direction but losing so many close games is a concern. He further said that winning the close games is necessary to perform well in the tournament and they will have to try and do that from now on.
Apart from bowling fielding too has been a concern as the team has dropped numerous catches. This made the defense downgraded and put more pressure on the bowlers. Dravid accepted that these minute errors have cost the team and they should rectify their catching and general fielding to avoid giving away simple runs.
As far as batting is concerned Dravid is of the view that the middle and lower middle order have not gelled together. The team has found it difficult to play the big shots one requires in pressure situations. Even when the wickets were not being lost quickly the batsmen were unable to play boundaries or sixes at the appropriate time. The absence of finishing ability has tainted the team in most matches. The coach explained that in the last five matches the difference between winning and losing came down to just one or two crucial shots which the team has not been able to make.
In spite of these setbacks Dravid is optimistic and upbeat about the youngsters in the middle order. According to him, they are extremely talented and will become good with experience. He talked about the likes of Riyan Parag Dhruv Jurel and Sanju Samson who have played well and at times have been impressive during the season. Dravid opined that this lot of players is of high class and some of them have even played international cricket which indicates their caliber. He cited that one of the players Hettie missed the season which was challenging but such incidents take place in sports.
As a whole, Dravid's message was distinct that the side must work diligently on bowling fielding and completing their batting innings well if they wish to win more games next season. Royals have also indicated some positive signs but they must resolve these issues and utilize their young talent well in order to have a better prospect in future matches. The season has been narrow in most matches but the team has failed to capitalize on the opportunities and that has to improve in the future. With the right determination and changes Rajasthan Royals aim to return stronger next year.
