Rishabh Pant Remembers LSG's Defeat to Punjab Kings and the Path Ahead

Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, remains hopeful despite the 37-run defeat of his team to Punjab Kings. There are three matches left in the IPL, and Pant wants his team to play its way into the play-offs. But the path ahead does not look easy. LSG currently has 10 points from 11 games and is placed seventh on the table. Their net run-rate of -0.47 indicates that winning the next three games could be insufficient to qualify for the play-offs.

The batting by the team was not on par, and the fielding too did not meet expectations.

He accepted that losing key catches at the wrong times hurt their prospects. "When you drop catches at the wrong time, it can cost you badly," Pant stated.
He further added that the team didn't get the length correct in the beginning of the match, which added to the high target they needed to chase. But Pant was quick to remind everyone that such things are part of the game, and there's nothing they can do except learn from the experience.

Analyzing the performance of his main players, Pant defended the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran, who have struggled in recent games. "It makes sense when your top order is performing well," Pant explained. "They can't be relied upon to hit every match.
At times, you need to dig deep and remain patient." He added that the sheer amount of runs they needed to chase became a significant obstacle in the end. The team was not able to get over the lofty target, and that contributed largely to their defeat.

While Punjab Kings' captain Shreyas Iyer was in a far more cheerful frame of mind following the win. "Everyone played at the right moment," an excited Iyer exclaimed. "The efforts from all were tremendous." He particularly praised Prabhsimran Singh for his 91 off 48, terming it "exceptional" and "a pleasure to watch."
Iyer was ecstatic about his team's performance, which took them to second spot in the league standings.

Iyer also gave credit to the hard work of his own team, believing in the adage that luck favors the brave. "We've been fortunate, but the fortune has come because of the hard work we've done," he said.
"Each one knows their job and does it flawlessly." While Iyer was satisfied with the overall performance, he also underlined the area of improvement in fielding. "The one thing that we have to fix is the awareness in the field and our movement," he said. "We just have to trust our instincts and play for each other – and that's working nicely for us."

In spite of the defeat, Pant's spirit is not dampened. He knows that his team has a mountain to climb but is hopeful that a good attitude and excellent performances in the last three matches can still help change things.
As the campaign goes on, both PBKS and LSG will be eager to learn from their experiences, with one looking to qualify for the play-offs and the other to continue in their top gear.

Pant and his squad will need to learn from their mistakes and put in extra effort to overcome the odds ahead. The dream of reaching the play-offs might still be on, but only time will tell if Lucknow can turn their fortunes around in the rest of the IPL 2025 season matches.
