New Zealand Crushes Pakistan to Secure Series Win
New Zealand produced a comprehensive performance to thrash Pakistan and win the series in a one-sided game. An imposing display of batting and bowling had Pakistan on the back foot, as the Kiwis confirmed the series win in emphatic fashion.

New Zealand completed an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in Wellington to seal the T20I series with a resounding 4-1 win. The game witnessed match-winning performances from Tim Seifert and Jimmy Neesham that left Pakistan reeling right from the beginning. Neesham produced his best-ever bowling performance in T20 internationals by taking five wickets for only 22 runs. Seifert then tore apart Pakistan bowling attack with a scintillating 97 runs from mere 38 balls. With this marvelous batting, New Zealand ran through the 129 target in 10 overs, ending the match in record time.
Pakistan started off by choosing to bat first on the difficult track that was full of support for the quick bowlers. The Sky Stadium conditions were transformed radically under the lights, with batting becoming very hard with seam swinging sharply and bouncy ball. Pakistan's leading order was disintegrated early on by Jacob Duffy and Ben Sears. Two wickets in his first spell were taken by Duffy while one more was added by Sears to leave Pakistan tottering at 27 for three at the close of the powerplay.
In spite of the initial hiccups, Agha Salman and Shadab Khan staged a comeback with a vital 54-run stand. Salman grittily scored 51 runs from 39 balls, while Shadab chipped in with a 20-ball 28. Just as Pakistan began to regain its footing, Neesham came in to destroy the middle and lower order. He dismissed Shadab with a cleverly disguised slower ball before going on to chip away at the batting order. Salman, who had also reached a hard-earned fifty, was also bowled by Neesham's astute bowling. Pakistan's score of 128 was much less than required on this surface, being at least 40 runs short of a good score.
The New Zealand chase was nothing short of spectacular. Seifert emerged with aggressive intentions, smashing the ball all around the field. He hit a ten sixes in his stay and added 93 runs to the score along with Finn Allen, who struck an aggressive 27 off just 12 deliveries. New Zealand reached 92 runs in powerplay itself and it was a record powerplay score by them in a T20I. It was the highest powerplay score by a team in a T20I played in New Zealand as well.
Allen was dismissed by Sufyan Muqeem, who gave Pakistan a temporary respite with his tight bowling. Mark Chapman also left shortly after, but by then the game was out of Pakistan's reach. Seifert made sure there was no hang time in completing the match. He faced Shadab Khan in the tenth over and hit 26 runs from it, out of which three huge sixes in succession sealed the match with half overs left to bat. His unbeaten 97 was an innings to cherish as he single-handedly guided New Zealand to the win.
With this victory, New Zealand swept the series, winning four out of the five games. The sole close game was in the second T20I when Hasan Nawaz's heroics enabled Pakistan to win their solitary match. Otherwise, New Zealand was in command throughout the series, showing their superior skill in both batting and bowling.
The last game highlighted the difference between the two sides in execution and adaptability. Pakistan's inexperienced batting order couldn't cope with the pace of New Zealand's pace bowlers, and their bowling side was short of control to put tight batters like Seifert and Allen under wraps. Neesham's five-wicket performance and Seifert's aggressive batting were the game's highlights, making for a comprehensive conclusion to the series for the hosts.
New Zealand's performance in the series reiterated that they are superior in T20 cricket. Being able to take control of every facet of the game is in their favor regarding future tournaments. Pakistan, in contrast, would have to pick themselves up and work on methods to improve their team, specifically in coping with conditions that tend to suit fast bowlers. As the cricketing calendar continues, both teams will look to their next tests, but this series will be one to be remembered for New Zealand's absolute domination.
