CSK's Focus on Future Success in Spite of Current Struggles

In spite of a challenging season in IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are still committed to planning for long-term success. Find out how the franchise is retooling its strategies for long-term growth and rebuilding its team.

CSK's Focus on Future Success in Spite of Current Struggles

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been the team that excels under pressure, always qualifying for the playoffs. But this season has not been the same for the team. With four matches remaining, CSK are in the unusual position of reviewing their performance instead of getting ready for the playoffs. In spite of the letdown, batting coach Michael Hussey assured that the team will not alter drastically. Rather, they will keep following the core principles which have made them successful so far.

Hussey clearly declared that CSK would not panic and shift away from their tried-and-true style of playing simply because things have not turned out the way they had wished this season.
It was his assumption that the team had held a series of meetings to determine what needed to be improved. Though Hussey didn't give details, he unveiled that the preparation for the 2026 season was already ongoing for the team. Among the glaring problems for CSK this season has been the poor showing of the team at home, especially at their fortress, Chepauk. In earlier years when they contested all their home games, CSK's home record was nothing short of staggering. This season has, however, been unusual, and the team has lost five home matches already. The losses are at the hands of teams like RCB, DC, and SRH, opponents they have easily beaten over time.

Hussey admitted it has been the unexpected and exasperating home record of the team.
He described how the other teams also have improved in the process of adapting to the conditions at Chepauk and conditions such as the dew too have improved making it an easy feat for teams to bat second. However, Hussey added that the problems faced by the team transcended these issues as well. He attributed their defeats to a sequence of blunders committed during batting, bowling, and fielding. Even with such losses, Hussey indicated that the team is ready to do their best, particularly for the hardcore supporters who turn out in numbers to watch them play at home.

While CSK at the bottom of the table has been a cause for concern, Hussey feels that the difference between teams is not quite as big as all that. He said that the league is highly competitive, and small factors such as injury, bad luck, or error can swing a game either way.
Although CSK has won very few matches this season, Hussey is hopeful. He believes that the team is not far off from playing at the highest level and that they still have match-winning players in their side. Hussey also referred to Rajasthan Royals, who have been a struggling unit this season, and highlighted how narrow margins would have pushed them into the top four, just to show how tight it is.

One thing Hussey is not concerned about is making the players get excited for the final section of the matches. He explained that the CSK team is already encouraged, as they have immense pride in playing for the team. The huge fan base and the CSK heritage give extra encouragement to the players to play well, even if they are not fighting for a playoff spot.
This is a chance for most of the players to establish themselves and feel secure in the team for the coming seasons. Hussey hopes that the side can complete the season well, with a few more wins and players making their presence felt.

Over all, even if this has been a challenging year so far for CSK, no panic within the camp can be seen. The fact that Michael Hussey would not relinquish the basic belief of the team and kept training for the future indicates CSK is an ever-forward-think team. Irrespective of the ups and downs, still, faith is there with themselves to act and play better. With right betterment and correct mindset, CSK would try to become strong again in the coming years.
