Yashasvi Jaiswal Receives Tough Advice From Ex-Cricketer As New Talent Emerges
Yashasvi Jaiswal is told by ex-Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali to work on consistency in the midst of IPL 2025 hardships and rising talent.

Basit Ali, a former Pakistan cricketer, has delivered a tough and emotional message for young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. The message was given after Jaiswal's lackluster performance in the current IPL 2025 season. Once a promising young star of Indian cricket Yashasvi is now going through a tough phase with the bat. Basit advised him that unless he returns to his concentration and passion for the game he would end up being like Prithvi Shaw whose early talent had not worked since he lacked concentration and discipline. Basit spoke no less bluntly and warned Jaiswal that cricket provides happiness but at the same time it can result in tears when players lose enthusiasm.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had been a fan favorite following his impressive season in 2023. His showing in the international series and the IPL had impressed fans and experts alike. But since a disappointing tour of Australia where India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 everything has not been the same. Since coming back from that series his form has plummeted badly. Besides one good knock of 67 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad he hasn't been able to get started. The 23-year-old who was once the future of Rajasthan Royals now appears to be under pressure to deliver on that reputation
Basit Ali put his views out on his YouTube channel where he candidly mentioned that Jaiswal appears to be distracted. He told that it seems hunger has disappeared and the young player is not concentrating on his game. He compared this to that of Prithvi Shaw, who also began well but afterwards lost his path. Basit requested Jaiswal to get back to his roots and once again fall in love with cricket if he wishes to escape the same fate. It is said by Basit that passion and discipline are the secrets of a long cricketing career and in their absence even the most talented cricketers can be left behind.
Whereas Jaiswal has a problem with form other young Indian cricketers are taking center stage. Punjab Kings' Priyansh Arya stunned everyone when he scored a century off only 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings. His knock was a display of power and confidence as he bludgeoned the bowlers to the boundary. In contrast Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans has also been in great touch. He made an intelligent and solid 82 runs from 53 balls against Rajasthan Royals. With 273 runs from five games he is now the second highest run getter in the Orange Cap contest. These performances indicate that there is ample young talent in Indian cricket waiting to make their mark.
The arrival of Priyansh and Sudharsan has also caught attention because of two legends of Indian cricket retiring recently. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from the T20 format after they won the World Cup in 2024. Basit Ali opined that both players took the correct decision. He further said that although he believed that Virat could have played more it was a shrewd decision given the number of young stars emerging. To him, the Indian team has huge numbers of talented players who can inherit the responsibility from the experienced players.
This transition phase in Indian cricket is significant not only for the team but also for players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal. With new players making their presence felt on a daily basis the heat is mounting on Jaiswal to deliver. He is young and has time to change things but he needs to do it in a hurry. Basit's words may sound strict but they reflect experience. There have been a lot of young cricketers who have gone through this situation in their careers where early success was followed by difficulty in maintaining it. The survivors and the ones who became stronger were those who remained humble and hungry for the game.
Jaiswal has already demonstrated that he possesses the talent to play at the top level. What he needs now is to reorient his mindset and recall why he began playing cricket in the first place. Success and fame are part of the way but they should never become the cause to lose direction. Cricket is a sport that rewards people who remain patient and dedicated. Basit's message must act as a wake-up call to not only Jaiswal but to all youngsters aspiring for a long and eventful cricket career.
In a league where everything is performance and competition increases day by day Jaiswal still holds some hope of making a comeback. He needs to recall that form is transitory but class and hard work can yield long term achievements. The journey from now onwards will not be smooth but with the correct attitude he can come back stronger than ever before and make his people proud again.
