Vaibhav Suryavanshi Stuns the Cricket World with Unbelievable IPL Record

Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned the cricket world with his unbelievable performance in the IPL. Just 14 years old, he played for Rajasthan Royals and scored a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans. His 101 runs from just 38 balls set the record for the fastest century in IPL history by an Indian player. This feat stunned everyone including cricket legend Steve Waugh of Australia. Waugh was surprised at the way Vaibhav was hitting sixes and how relaxed he seemed at such a young age. He was not able to believe the strength and simplicity in Vaibhav's batting and described it as wonderful to see.

Waugh has talked about Vaibhav in a media gathering with Anil Kumble Matthew Hayden and Robin Uthappa. They were included in the Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26 initiative.
Waugh mentioned that at 14 Vaibhav had no inhibitions and just played with utter freedom. He stated that this was wonderful to observe but the true test of Vaibhav will be to maintain his game under check. Waugh is of the view that Vaibhav possesses excellent talent and is mentally robust. He also stated that Vaibhav has a great back story and his parents also worked hard to enable him to succeed.

Waugh also stated that he does not watch IPL matches on a regular basis due to the time in Australia but could not help watching Vaibhav's match.
He described Vaibhav as a great draw card for cricket and stated that everyone wishes to see players like him. He also cautioned that Vaibhav will be under a lot of pressure and expectations in the near future. He added that Vaibhav already has an IPL contract of over one crore rupees and he will most likely turn into a millionaire before he is 16.

Waugh questioned whether Vaibhav would continue playing in the same manner with the same freedom and joy in the near future. He added this would really be Vaibhav's true test because once you are in the limelight the pressure begins.
People will look to him to perform well every time and that can be tough for such a young person. But Waugh added he hopes to see Vaibhav succeed because his tale is so heartwarming. He added that players such as Vaibhav inject new life into the game and make it thrilling to watch for fans everywhere.

Although Vaibhav is already being likened to the great Sachin Tendulkar, Waugh stated that this is unfair. He added that Sachin Tendulkar was an uncommon player who appeared once in a generation. Waugh added Sachin's century at Perth during 1991-92 was still vivid in the Australian minds.
He added that Perth is the toughest of all pitches in the world and for an 18-year-old to make a century there was something only Sachin could accomplish. Waugh added that it is not proper to compare Vaibhav with Sachin because Sachin's standard is very difficult to achieve.

Waugh opined that it is extremely rare for a Sachin-like talent to emerge and one should never expect Vaibhav to be like Sachin. He also opined that even the idea of a 14-year-old getting a century in the IPL was not possible.
Waugh reflected on his past when he was 14 and said that he could not even imagine himself to be in such a position and perform so well. He mentioned that what Vaibhav has accomplished is unbelievable and that it is something special for cricket lovers to witness.

Waugh also discussed how the Indian cricket team has evolved over time. He mentioned that Indian teams are no longer afraid when they travel to nations like Australia. He mentioned that they have become extremely confident and mature. Indian cricketers tour a lot and also play in various conditions so they are not intimidated easily these days.
Waugh also mentioned that Indian sides receive massive support from their supporters even if they play in Australia. Actually he mentioned that Indian sides receive more backing in Australia than the Australian side itself.

Waugh explained that India has recently won two Test series in Australia and that is reflective of how much stronger they have become.
He explained that the times when Indian teams used to get nervous playing outside their home country are over. They now understand how to overcome the odds and have now emerged as one of the most difficult teams to beat in the world. Waugh explained that it is good for cricket as it has made the game more competitive and interesting.

For Vaibhav Suryavanshi ahead will not be smooth sailing. At 14 years old he has already done something that most players can dream of.
But as Waugh stated, the secret to success for him will be to remain calm and not let pressure get the better of him. He possesses the talent and the aptitude to go very far but he also needs to learn to remain calm and have fun while playing. If he is able to do that, then he will keep on shining and write history in cricket.

Vaibhav's tale has already won the hearts of millions of cricket fans. His century in the IPL will be talked about for years to come.
It is not a common phenomenon that a boy enters the field and performs like a hero. Vaibhav has demonstrated that with determination and passion for the sport anything is achievable. His path has only just started and the cricket universe will be observing keenly to ascertain what is in store for him. For the moment fans globally are simply pleased to observe this young ball of light illuminate the sport and spread so much happiness to cricket.
