Suryakumar Yadav Posts Good Fitness Update Ahead of Asia Cup

Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided his fans with a good reason to smile as he posted an important fitness update before the Asia Cup. After being away for over a month at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, he has confirmed that he is on the road to recovery and is set to lead the Indian team in the next tournament. The 34 year old star batsman had undergone a successful sports hernia operation in Munich Germany shortly after the end of the IPL this year. Now with weeks of rigorous toil behind him he has begun to feel optimistic about his comeback.

Suryakumar disclosed that his injury was picked up towards the end of the IPL. As he had had a similar issue the previous year he quickly recognized the symptoms. He went through his own check list and when the pain persisted he opted for an MRI scan. The reports indicated that surgery was the only solution to the problem and soon he flew to Germany for the operation. He was happy to inform that the operation went smoothly and he had already known how the rehabilitation process was going to be planned step by step. Breaking one week at a time and planning things accordingly helped him remain composed and concentrated throughout the recovery phase.

After he returned to India he admitted himself to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru where he started his rehabilitation. For the past five to six weeks, he has been working with the trainers and physios at the facility who designed personalised sessions for him. Suryakumar said the staff at the CoE knew his body pretty well because they used to work with him during his last injury as well. Every morning when he went to the training ground or gym they immediately designed a workout routine suitable for his condition on that day. This careful consideration allowed for constant progress without subjecting his body to unnecessary stress.

Talking in a video uploaded by the BCCI on social media Suryakumar mentioned that he was good following the long routine. He referred to the last few weeks as the disciplined journey with appropriate process and good routines. He conceded that his fingers had been crossed but he was optimistic and prepared for the challenges that followed. Patience and adhering to the plan step by step was the key for him to regain full fitness.

Besides appreciating the trainers and physiotherapists he also had words of praise for the facilities at the CoE. In his opinion, the venue is one of the best he has witnessed in a very long period of time. He pointed out that the gym is huge and has the capacity to fit thirty to thirty five athletes training concurrently at the same venue. The range of machines that they had was impressive and he said some of these new machines were very handy from the point of view of an athlete. He was thrilled to have such world-class facility at his disposal as a professional cricketer in India.

The skipper also emphasized that the CoE is not meant for injured players alone. Any contracted player or specific cricketer can avail the facility for practice and training. He disclosed that there are sixty to seventy nets for net sessions and three full-sized grounds. For him training there was unbelievable and made him confident regarding his comeback into competitive cricket.

While Suryakumar was undergoing his rehab there were many discussions going on in Indian cricket. Sachin Tendulkar recently opined on one rule which he would like to reform in the game whereas some strong claims surfaced regarding BCCIs fitness tests and the future of aged players like Rohit Sharma. But the spotlight is currently on Suryakumar who is to return as captain in the Asia Cup.

The highly anticipated tournament will start on September 9 and India will start their campaign the following day against the UAE. The tournament will prove to be a crucial test for the Indian team as it gathers seasoned names along with new talent. The team features Suryakumar Yadav as captain with Shubman Gill Abhishek Sharma Tilak Varma Hardik Pandya Shivam Dube Jitesh Sharma Axar Patel Jasprit Bumrah Varun Chakaravarthy Arshdeep Singh Kuldeep Yadav Sanju Samson Harshit Rana and Rinku Singh. India will aim to begin on a high note and establish a run-up to the larger events in the schedule with such an evenly balanced team.

As the Asia Cup countdown starts everyone will be looking at him to find out how he fares in his comeback series. His update has already instilled confidence among the fans that he is geared up both mentally and physically. With world class backing and his own efforts Suryakumar is now all set to captain India with enthusiasm and passion in one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year.
