Sourav Ganguly's Advice to Vaibhav Suryavanshi Following Rajasthan Royals' Close Defeat

Following Rajasthan Royals' close one-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025 game, Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, sat down with 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Although his team had lost, Ganguly's encounter with the young cricketer was a significant act of motivation. Vaibhav had a rough game in the match, being dismissed for just four runs, which was one of the reasons for the defeat. After the game, Ganguly made time to greet Vaibhav, as well as RR's captain Sanju Samson and head coach Rahul Dravid, and give the young player some words of encouragement and advice.

Ganguly's message to Vaibhav was straightforward but powerful.
He reminded the youth to continue playing with the same aggressive style that had led him to the IPL. Ganguly stressed that Vaibhav had no need to alter his instinctive pattern of play. As per reports, Ganguly stated, "I have seen your game. Keep playing the way you play fearless cricket. There is no need to change the game." These reassuring words are set to increase Vaibhav's confidence, with the teenager hoping to recover from the arduous match.

In the meantime, the match itself was one of great excitement.
Rajasthan Royals were in pursuit of 207, and their start was good, with 52 runs needed off 30 balls. Riyan Parag, the RR skipper, was playing a wonderful knock, scoring 95 runs off 45 balls, with eight sixes and six fours. Nevertheless, though Parag played wonders with the bat, Rajasthan was short by a little of the target. Parag's dismissal in the 18th over changed the momentum in Kolkata Knight Riders' favor, and though Shubham Dubey tried hard to complete the match with two sixes and a four, Rajasthan lost by one run.

During his post-match interview, Parag talked about his own performance and acknowledged that he had made a mistake in the last overs. He accepted that he could have completed the game himself and that he got the target wrong. Parag added, "I was just too upset about myself getting out.
Probably a miscalculation from my side, I should have finished it." He further added that there were options available in the last overs which would have ensured their victory. Though losing, Parag was mature enough to take blame for the failure of his team to seal the deal.

Parag also gave his comments regarding the bowling of Rajasthan. He pointed out that the team had worked well in restricting Kolkata Knight Riders in the early part of the innings but should have been more aggressive in their strategy against Andre Russell.
Russell's 57 off 25 deliveries at the back end of the innings helped Kolkata put up a fighting total. Parag conceded that he could have utilized his bowlers better and that they would have stood a better chance had they curbed Russell's explosive spree.

Looking back on his own skipper-ship, Parag stated that he had consciously not bowled consecutive bowlers to rest them, but now felt that this may not have been the right tactic. While expressing his annoyance at the result, he was full of praise for Russell's power-hitting, stating, "We've got to give (Russell) credit because he came in, took his time.
The way he accelerated was amazing to watch."

For Rajasthan, this match was a difficult defeat, but it also taught them important lessons, which their players, especially the young talent like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, can learn from. With such players as Parag and Vaibhav in the squad, Rajasthan Royals are full of promise.
Parag's ability to examine his errors and improve accordingly will be an asset in their subsequent games. And as for Vaibhav, Sourav Ganguly's words of wisdom will certainly keep him on track and playing bold cricket.

All in all, it was an up-and-down game, but both teams exhibited a wonderful exhibition of skill and sportsmanship.
Kolkata Knight Riders had won by a whisker, but Rajasthan Royals have no reason to hang their heads in shame, having fought until the last ball. With youngsters like Vaibhav Suryavanshi being groomed by the best and battle-hardened captains like Riyan Parag at the helm, Rajasthan has a rosy future in store despite this narrow loss.
