RCB Player Yash Dayal Receives Reprieve From Allahabad High Court in Sexual Exploitation Matter
Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricket player Yash Dayal has been temporarily given relief by the Allahabad High Court in a case of sexual exploitation. The Court, while investigations proceed, has granted a stay on his arrest.

Yash Dayal, a cricketer of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL, has been granted temporary reprieve from the Allahabad High Court in a serious legal matter. The court directed a stay on his arrest after an FIR was registered for sexually exploiting a woman on the false pretense of marriage. The case has highlighted the issue as the woman alleged she had a five-year relationship with Dayal and hoped to marry him. She then accused Dayal of deceiving her and never having the intention to keep his word. The legal case remains under consideration and will be watched closely in the coming weeks.
The FIR was lodged on July 6 at Ghaziabad's Indirapuram police station. It was lodged under Section 69 of the new criminal law BNS which is about sexual intercourse procured by means of deception. The complainant alleged that the cricketer kept her physically engaged for a long period of time with the promise of marriage. She also said that Dayal showed her to his family members which gave her the impression that the relationship was real and was going to be a marriage. But she later found that he was dating other girls which caused her doubts about it and she filed the complaint.
The bench of Justices Siddhartha Varma and Anil Kumar of the court has now directed the state counsel to file a counter affidavit and issued a notice to the complainant to reply. Although the court has not passed any judgment regarding whether the charges were valid or not it observed that the issue requires further investigation. It said that as the relationship had been going on for more than five years it is not simple at this point to determine if Dayal actually misled the woman or if their relationship just broke up on a sour note. Until the case goes any further or a police complaint is filed the court has declared that the cricketer cannot be detained.
In his petition Yash Dayal has sought the cancellation of the FIR against him. His attorney contended that no case can be established under Section 69 unless it is established that the individual gave a false promise of marriage from the very start. The attorney pointed out that the woman and Dayal were dating for a few years and that throughout they received financial assistance from the cricketer. He also alleged that the FIR seems to be driven by the recent success in Dayal's cricketing career. The timing of the complaint is suspicious since it was lodged soon after Dayal's being picked in the Indian cricket team and the lawyer accused the woman of attempting to exploit his growing popularity.
As per Dayal's lawyers there was never any false assurance given. They said that nothing in the FIR establishes that the cricketer employed any trickery or deception to get the woman to consent to physical intimacy. The lawyer further added that this whole complaint had been filed only after their relationship soured and that the accusations appear to be an afterthought. They also brought out the fact that the woman had remained silent for a number of years and only made a complaint when she realized Dayal was becoming popular in cricket.
The government counsel on the other hand explained that the FIR categorically illustrates how the woman was exploited physically over time. He contended that if Dayal presented her to his family and persuaded her to marry while maintaining physical contact then it indicates a false promise. The woman thought she was to be married and kept hoping for years. That makes the case serious and requires investigation further as the advocate elucidated before the court.
The complaint was initially lodged online on June 21 via the IGRS platform that is the Chief Minister's grievance redressal system. In her report, the woman recounted having met Dayal five years back and how Dayal had vowed to wed her. She informed that each time she told him to keep that promise he would keep procrastinating and eventually she discovered his affair with other women. That is when she chose to register the FIR and approach the authorities with the issue.
The case has now turned into a public interest case particularly as it concerns a famous cricketer who plays for the favorite RCB team. The court has stated that it will not jump to any conclusion and wait for all the facts to come on record. It has asserted that the course of action would depend upon the police report or subsequent hearings. For the time being Dayal will not be arrested but the probe continues.
This court fight demonstrates how delicate and complex such matters can become particularly when celebrities are involved. It also demonstrates how the law is always slow to grasp the entire scenario before making any final verdict. With both sides narrating the incident in their own ways the truth will be revealed only after proper judicial scrutiny. Until that time Yash Dayal has got interim relief and will continue to be on bail as the case proceeds.
