RCB Hopes to Come Back Strong at Home as PBKS Aims for Second Win
RCB looks to come back tough at home from PBKS, who seek their second victory of IPL 2025. There is a real test match pending at Chinnaswamy Stadium

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is back home hoping to reverse their fortunes after two straight losses at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2025. Though they have been struggling at home, they have been unbeaten away from home, winning all their away matches. RCB is presently placed third on the points table with four wins out of six games. Their next game against fourth-placed Punjab Kings (PBKS) is vital in order to prevent a hat-trick of losses and to remain in the playoff hunt.
RCB's recent home losses were of a similar script. They lost the toss in both matches and were required to bat first on slow tracks that favored the chasing sides because of the dew that fell in Bengaluru. RCB could not score big in both matches, managing 169/8 and 163/7. Their last game against Delhi Capitals was a story of a different kind, in which RCB was able to sprint to 50 runs off only three overs, courtesy of a strategic surge by Phil Salt, who dictated the tone with a fireworks-studded beginning.
The team's away-hand speed attack has not been as successful when at home. Josh Hazlewood, with a dazzling record of nine wickets and an economy rate of 8.65, has struggled the most at the Chinnaswamy. His home performance has been subpar, yielding only one wicket and an economy rate of 12.1, which indicates the extent to which conditions have impacted their bowling strategy.
Then there is PBKS, who enters this game brimming with confidence following a convincing victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. PBKS possess one of the most explosive powerplay combinations in the league and players such as Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer have high strike rates. During their recent success, Yuzvendra Chahal starred, taking four wickets while defending a modest total for PBKS. Chahal, having had a special relation with RCB from his own eight seasons spent with the club, is RCB's joint highest wicket-taker from the Chinnaswamy Stadium and thereby a danger-man for RCB.
Both RCB and PBKS are now fighting for a position at the top of the table, with the victor of this game being able to score ten points, thus tying with Delhi Capitals. The game is intense as the teams will be meeting once again later in New Chandigarh.
RCB's probable playing XI will be the same as their crushing win against Rajasthan Royals. The team has performed well on the road and will be looking to carry that momentum to their home ground too. Players such as Rajat Patidar, who leads the team in the absence of a settled captain, will have to take the lead from the front, backed by experienced players such as Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal.
PBKS, on the other hand, has some decisions to make regarding their team. Their coach Ricky Ponting has indicated that they may retain Josh Inglis in the team following his decent performance against KKR, although the team can also recall Marcus Stoinis or Glenn Maxwell, both of whom are currently underperforming. Maxwell's form has been a big worry for PBKS. Having struggled through last season, he has kept on struggling through 2025, making only 41 runs off 41 balls in five innings. Though his off-spin has been the useful weapon of PBKS as he has achieved four wickets this season so far.
For RCB, Devdutt Padikkal's recent form at home has also reflected the team's inconsistency. He has only scored 1 and 4 in the two home matches, and his performances have been spotty. Yet, he has played better in away matches, which can perhaps provide him with the confidence to reverse fortunes.
The Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch in this season has not been as bowler-friendly as it has been in the past. The two-paced surfaces have made batting tough for sides such as RCB, who have not been able to cross 170 runs in either of their home matches till now. Weather in Bengaluru might be a factor, as there has been recent rain and chillier evenings, and this might alter the nature of the pitch to some extent.
With regards to players, RCB will depend on their excellent pace attack, with Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar being the leaders. They have been outstanding in powerplay this year. They have contributed to the best dot-ball percentage for the competition, and their control in the initial overs will be significant in preventing PBKS' belligerent opening duo from scoring. For PBKS, the spotlight will be on Chahal, who has been in top form and has an excellent record at this ground.
With both sides being evenly matched and seeking to gain momentum, this match is likely to be an exciting encounter. RCB will have to shake off their home jinx and put up a good show if they are to keep their playoff hopes alive, while PBKS will seek to extend their winning run and draw closer to the top of the table.
