Mohammed Shami Could Have Higher Monthly Maintenance As Court Case Against Hasin Jahan Rages On

As the legal proceedings between the Indian pacer and Mohammad Shami and his estranged wife Hasin Jahan intensify, reports of demands for an upward revision of Shami's maintenance allowance have surfaced. Ever since the case began gaining national attention, both sides have been bringing in fresh arguments.

Mohammed Shami Could Have Higher Monthly Maintenance As Court Case Against Hasin Jahan Rages On

Indian cricket bowler Mohammed Shami could soon have to contend with an even larger financial setback as his raging legal battle with his estranged spouse Hasin Jahan becomes more intense. Shami has already been directed by the Calcutta High Court to pay Rs 4 lakh per month as alimony. From this figure Rs 1.5 lakh is for Hasin Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh is for their daughter. But as per Jahan's lawyer Imtiaz Ahmed there is a high chance that this monthly figure could increase further. He indicated that the amount could increase to Rs 6 lakh as the legal cases go on. This is after a protracted and hard struggle for Hasin Jahan who has been on her quest for justice since 2018. Hasin Jahan married Mohammed Shami in 2014 and they had a daughter in 2015. Their marriage began to crumble in 2018 when Hasin Jahan accused Mohammed Shami of domestic violence and cheating.

The allegations resulted in a much-publicized breakup and various court cases including those for maintenance and custody. Since their breakup Hasin Jahan has been filing for divorce and claiming proper financial assistance in the courts. Her initial petition in the maintenance case was for an amount of Rs 7 lakh on her behalf and Rs 3 lakh on behalf of her daughter as a monthly payment. Even though the court initially set the alimony at Rs 4 lakh the final ruling could still be modified as the case continues in the trial court. Hasin Jahan's counsel Imtiaz Ahmed termed the court order as a huge relief to his client. He stated that between 2018 and 2024 Hasin had to face numerous legal obstacles and had to flee from one court to another.

At last in 2024 the High Court issued a clear order which gave a fixed sum for both her and her daughter's monthly requirements. The advocate also pointed out that the court had instructed the trial court to decide the interim application within six months. Therefore, there is a time limit to make a final judgment on the maintenance amount on a monthly basis. If the trial court upholds Hasin Jahan's initial demand the maintenance sum may be raised to Rs 6 lakh from Rs 4 lakh in the near future. The legal battle between Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan has attracted considerable public interest since the domestic violence allegations came to light. Hasin had approached the Alipore court in 2018 where she lodged a case against Shami along with certain members of his family for mental and physical harassment. She had then sought Rs 7 lakh a month for taking care of herself and her daughter. The court heard the case and initially granted an amount of Rs 80 thousand to be paid for the maintenance of the daughter. The case went through various phases over the years and now the High Court has taken a strong stance in fixing a reasonable alimony amount for the mother and the child. The High Court order also states that Shami must assist his daughter whenever she requires it. This clause shows that the court recognizes the ongoing responsibility of a father towards his child beyond the fixed monthly payments. This condition adds another layer to Shami’s financial responsibilities especially if the maintenance gets upgraded. Imtiaz Ahmed feels that if the trial court again hears the case and takes into account the initial demands put forth by Hasin Jahan then there are chances that the final figure may be equal to or even higher than the initial claim of Rs 10 lakh per month.

Mohammed Shami who is India's best fast bowler has had a good cricketing career on the pitch but his personal life has always been under the scanner because of these extended legal battles. The ongoing controversy has not only hit his public life but also placed an additional burden in terms of finance because of the alimony ordered by the court. For Hasin Jahan the court's ruling has been like a godsend after all these years of turmoil. A former model who surrendered her career after marriage, Hasin has spoken strongly about the financial and emotional miseries she went through post-separation. Her lawyer's recent utterances indicate her resolve to gain a better life for herself and her daughter through the law. Both sides have given their points and proofs over the years and the issue remains even now not totally settled. With the High Court specifying a deadline for the trial court ruling the last page in this alimony war might be turned within the next couple of months. Till then Mohammed Shami is liable under the present court order to give Rs 4 lakh monthly which may increase based on what the court sees fit regarding the economic requirements of Hasin Jahan and their daughter. The case has marked the intricacy of celebrity breakups and the complexity of ensuring justice and financial security for all parties concerned.
