India put on a historic T20I victory against England, dominating all departments of the game. Smriti Mandhana was always creating an impression with her scintillating performance exhibiting class and power-hitting as India sailed through to a record-breaking win in the series.

India Overwhelm England with Record T20I Victory as Mandhana Excels

India produced one of their most comprehensive performances in women's T20I history when they defeated England comprehensively by 97 runs in the opening match of their five-match series at Trent Bridge. It was a game where everything went right for the Indian team and England had no answers. Replacing Harmanpreet Kaur, who was injured in the warm-up game, Smriti Mandhana scored one of the best innings of her life. She completed her first T20I century with ease. Mandhana scored 112 runs from only 62 balls with three sixes and 15 fours. She completed her hundred in 51 balls and became the first woman to achieve centuries in all three forms of the game. Her innings with Shafali Verma provided India with a steady start. Although Shafali was subdued in nature she still offered assistance while they were together for a 77-run opening partnership. Shafali initially got out but used DRS to her advantage since the ball had struck her helmet and not her bat. She then got out for 20 when she chipped a easy catch to mid-off.

Harleen Deol walked in at number three and started scoring freely from the word go. She scored 43 runs off just 23 balls with some great sweeps and clean hitting.
Her big hits particularly against spin brought pressure back on England's bowlers. Although Sophie Ecclestone resumed for England after a brief hiatus she could not do much. She was struck for huge sixes by Mandhana and conceded 43 runs from her three overs. Deol's aggressive batting took India past 200 and she was dismissed after mistiming a huge shot. Lauren Bell was England's top bowler with 3 for 27. She took some important wickets towards the end like Jemimah Rodrigues for a duck and Richa Ghosh who attempted to play big but got caught.

Mandhana's innings of excellence ended in the last over when she mis-timed a full toss and was caught out. Nevertheless her 112 led India to a score of 210 for 5 which is their second-highest score in T20 internationals. Harmanpreet was spotted applauding from the balcony as Mandhana scored her hundred indicating a sense of pride she had over her stand-in skipper.

England's batting unit crumbled under pressure and they were bowled out for a meager 113 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt alone resisted with 66 runs but she didn't get any support at the other end. Wickets were falling and India's bowlers never gave England a chance to settle.
Richa Ghosh gave the perfect start in the first over with a great catch as she jumped high to get rid of Sophia Dunkley. Deepti Sharma then dismissed Danni Wyatt cheaply and then bowled Tammy Beaumont with an astute ball. Beaumont was playing her first T20I since September and had a problem with spin.

Amy Jones was next to depart when Radha Yadav beat her with a turning ball and Ghosh finished the stumping after a minor fumble. From there the collapse rolled on.
Shree Charani, playing her very first game for India, gave a fantasy performance. She took 4 wickets for only 12 runs. She kept the batters tight with dot balls and pushed them into errors. Capsey was among her victims and her fall encapsulated England's subpar batting performance. Charani also claimed the last wicket and seemed composed and assured during her spell. Her debut couldn't have been any better and she was a significant contributor to England undergoing their biggest T20I loss.

Even though Sciver-Brunt tried to fight back she was left with too much to do alone.
She reached her fifty in good time but finally edged behind to Ghosh off Charani’s bowling. Mandhana then took a catch to dismiss Arlott and England’s hopes faded quickly. The team that had easily beaten West Indies at home recently was brought down to earth. This match was a strong reminder that India are a different challenge altogether.

India demonstrated immense power with the bat and ball. Spinners pipped England's big time and the fielding was also tight throughout. Harmanpreet's not playing did not affect the team as Mandhana took command confidently and performed under pressure.
Her innings was filled with elegance and strength and will be talked of for years to come.

With this victory India have established a 1-0 lead in the series and have also delivered a strong message to the hosts. England have much work to do particularly with their batting strategy against spin and their poor fielding.
For India, however, this match was not merely about victory it was one made of statements. They were able to display depth within their team through the likes of Charani who stepped forward and made the most of every opportunity that came their way.

This game was a lesson in how fast it can turn in T20 cricket. One team performed with confidence energy and coherence while the other played inapproachably and without intensity. Smriti Mandhana's hundred was the pick but it was an entire team effort that resulted in one of India's largest T20I victories. England will have to pull themselves together quickly if they are to come back in the remaining series matches.
