Cricketing world was shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely death of ICC umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari at 41. He was one of the most experienced match officials in the ICC International Panel of Umpires. He died on a Monday night after traveling to Peshawar to have a medical procedure. His brother Seyda Jan says that Bismillah had come to the conclusion that he would undergo surgery to drain abdominal fat. Sadly the operation went terribly wrong and he died shortly after at approximately 5 PM. His body was returned overnight via Torkham and he was buried in the family's ancestral graveyard in Achin district of Nangarhar province in Afghanistan.

Bismillah Jan Shinwari had established a great career as an umpire. He had stood in some international and domestic cricket matches.
His achievement covered 34 One Day Internationals 26 T20 Internationals 31 First-Class matches 51 List A games and 96 domestic T20s. He first took the field as an umpire internationally in December 2017 in a Sharjah match between Afghanistan and Ireland. Since then, he had been a known and respected figure on the cricket pitch. His composed nature and thorough understanding of the game earned him a prominent place in the community of umpires.

Shah conveyed his deepest condolences to the family of the umpire and all who were familiar with him. The Afghanistan Cricket Board also honored him through their official X account message. They gave their condolences to his soul and sent words of condolence to his bereaved family.
