Gujarat Titans Overpower Mumbai Indians with 36-Run Victory
Gujarat Titans posted an intimidating performance to register a 36-run victory against Mumbai Indians in an entertaining IPL 2025 encounter. Riding on good batting and disciplined bowling, GT outshone MI in every aspect to bag an influential win.

Gujarat Titans had a good game and won the match against Mumbai Indians by 36 runs in their IPL 2025 game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat was invited to bat first and utilized the opportunity by scoring 196/8. Mumbai tried to pursue the target but was unable to pick up pace and could score only 160/6 in 20 overs. The match was full of exciting moments where Gujarat had the upper hand both with bat and ball to win a big match.
Sai Sudharsan continued his good form and was instrumental in Gujarat's innings. He scored a scintillating 63 off 41 balls, his second half-century of the tournament. His 78-run partnership with Shubman Gill was a good platform for Gujarat as they established their innings on him and Gill. Gill had a steady 38 off 27 before being cut down by Hardik Pandya to provide a breakthrough to Mumbai. Jos Buttler then sustained the innings by his free flowing batting and sustained Gujarat's innings. He blasted a quickfire 39 off 24 before being bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The middle order could not capitalise on the good beginning since wickets fell at regular intervals. Shahrukh Khan scored 9 off 7 and Mumbai managed to recover in the death overs as they took three wickets at quick intervals. It was not sufficient to prevent Gujarat from making a decent total of 196/8, though, thanks to some vital runs from Sherfane Rutherford, who remained 18 off 11.
Mumbai began their pursuit on a negative note and suffered early wickets. Mohammed Siraj bowled expertly and removed both Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton in quick succession. Rohit was taken for 8 off 4, and Rickelton scored only 6 off 9. These early wickets put pressure on Mumbai, and they could not gain the momentum. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played cautiously and stitched a third-wicket partnership of 62 runs with hopes to keep their team in the fray. Suryakumar was in top shape and had scored 48 off 28 when he was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. Varma tried to lift Mumbai's hopes but also got dismissed by Krishna for 39 off 36. Both the batsmen were dismissed in the same manner, caught deep as they tried to accelerate the scoring.
Once these set batsmen were dismissed, Mumbai were in deep trouble. Kagiso Rabada returned to bowl and removed Hardik Pandya, who was unable to get his rhythm and was picked for 11 off 17. The turning point had come, and Mumbai lost any chance of coming back. Gujarat bowlers never lost their discipline and did not allow Mumbai to score freely. The target rate of run increased, and Mumbai was not able to sustain the big hitters that were necessary in order for them to remain in the match. When the match was ended, Mumbai remained stranded at 160/6, 36 runs behind the target.
The bowling side of Gujarat was quite effective in sustaining the total. The pick of the lot was Prasidh Krishna, taking 2/18 off four overs. He played a crucial role by dismissing both set batters and breaking Mumbai’s momentum. Mohammed Siraj also made a big impact with his early wickets, which set the tone for Gujarat’s dominance. Rabada’s wicket of Hardik Pandya was the final blow that sealed Mumbai’s fate. The bowlers worked together and ensured that Mumbai never got back into the match.
Despite their loss, Mumbai did show some fight with the ball. After Gujarat's good beginning, their bowlers made a spectacular comeback in the death overs. They managed to take three wickets in three balls, which kept Gujarat from reaching the 200-run mark. Trent Boult delivered an excellent yorker to dismiss Sai Sudharsan LBW, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and other bowlers also contributed with important wickets. Their batting department, though, was not able to match the work put in by the bowlers.
Gujarat Titans had won this because they outplayed Mumbai in every department. Their batsmen gave a fighting score, and their bowlers executed their plans to perfection. Fifty by Sai Sudharsan, along with decent performances from Gill and Buttler, helped Gujarat post a huge score. Mumbai, however, lost the match because of their failure to get a good start and their failure to pick up speed in the middle overs. Gujarat will be thrilled with this thorough win as they go on to maintain their strong performance in IPL 2025.
