Gt Bring In Kusal Mendis-Mayank Yadav Out With Injury

Gujarat Titans have signed Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis to replace England's Jos Buttler, who has pulled out of IPL 2025 because of international obligations. Mendis, for his attacking batting and wicketkeeping abilities, will add depth to the Titans' middle order while also being an option with the gloves. The signing is part of the preparations with the team set for the forthcoming games, with a particularly important game on May 18 against Chennai Super Kings.

Gt Bring In Kusal Mendis-Mayank Yadav Out With Injury

Gujarat Titans have taken a strategic move by signing Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis on loan as an interim replacement for Jos Buttler during the IPL 2025 playoffs in case they reach there. Buttler can play the last three league matches and will feature in the last one at home against CSK on May 25. He will then head for England duty since he is a part of both teams for the white-ball series against West Indies, which begins on May 29. Mendis, who never played in the IPL previously, boasts a T20 strike rate of 137.43 in 167 innings. He has signed up with the Titans team for INR 75 Lakh.

In other news, Lucknow Super Giants have suffered an injury setback as their pace bowler Mayank Yadav is again ruled out after suffering a back injury.
Yadav was retained for INR 11 Crore prior to the start of the season and came back from injury mid-way through the 2025 season but featured in just two games. He took 2-40 against MI and 0-60 against PBKS. To compensate for the loss, LSG have recruited William O'Rourke, a New Zealand pacer who is tall and strong, at INR 3 crore.

On similar lines, Punjab Kings have included Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson, who injured his hamstring more than a month ago during the match against SRH in Hyderabad. Jamieson has existing experience in the IPL as he played nine matches for RCB in 2021 after being acquired at INR 15 Crore.
He was subsequently signed by CSK in 2023 for INR 1 crore, but did not play in any game. Having taken 94 wickets in 81 T20 matches, Jamieson offers quality experience and ability to PBKS until the end of the season, signing for INR 2 Crore.

These developments reflect how franchises are adjusting for injuries and player availability with the IPL 2025 entering its most decisive stage. As some players depart for national duty and others are ruled out with injuries, the franchises act fast to introduce able replacements with their hopes of making the playoffs still alive. The fans will be interested in watching performances of these new arrivals as the tournament reaches its peak.
