BCCI Shifts Cricket Match Venues for Upcoming India Home Season
Keeping in view better logistics and shaper player and spectator comfort across important series, BCCI has announced some venue changes for India’s forthcoming home season 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially shifted some venues for the upcoming home cricket season. This will impact matches across the men's women's and A teams fixtures. With fans preparing for another thrilling season of cricket the BCCI has made these changes to facilitate easy planning and preparation. Some of the changes were implemented as a result of schedule swaps and others occurred as a result of ground work and stadium improvements. The new grounds are now locked in and fans will have to pay attention to the new list in order to follow the action.
In one of the main updates the West Indies men's tour of India will now feature a minor but significant alteration. The two-Test match tour will start on October 2 in Ahmedabad as was previously decided. But the second Test originally scheduled for Kolkata to be played from October 10 will now be hosted in New Delhi. The exchange will see the city fans enjoying the five-day game earlier than initially anticipated. It's a great chance for cricket-fanatic audience in Delhi who were originally set to witness action in November.
Under this reallocation Kolkata will not be left out. Instead of organizing the second Test against West Indies the city will organize the first Test match between India and South Africa. This Test will start from November 14 and was originally scheduled in New Delhi. Now Kolkata has an opportunity to host a high-level match between two powerful cricketing countries. It is a shift that keeps both cities included in the Test schedule but with refreshed fixtures. It is a balanced shift that continues to keep fans interested across various centers.
There is also a significant shift in the women's cricket calendar. The Indian women’s team was scheduled to host Australia for a three-match ODI series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However the matches have been shifted out of Chennai because the stadium is currently undergoing revamping work. The ground and pitches are being upgraded and so they will not be ready in time for the series. This has led to the matches being moved to new locations. New Chandigarh will now have the first and second ODIs whereas New Delhi will have the third ODI of the series. The fans in these places can now anticipate watching some of the finest women cricketers.
These have not been restricted to the senior men's and women's sides alone. Even the A teams have had some work done in their calendar. South Africa A was to face India A in a three-match one-day series in Bengaluru. These games were to be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium from November 13. But these matches have now been relocated to Rajkot. This provides an opportunity for Rajkot to fill in and host these critical developmental matches. Its a wonderful opportunity for Rajkot fans to see future stars perform.
It is notable that the BCCI has not altered the venues of other matches not included in the official announcement. All the other games will proceed at their initially planned venues unless and until notice is issued again. The fans are free to make arrangements to attend or observe those matches without any venue alterations. That the BCCI decided to reschedule only the chosen matches indicates that there is a thoughtful and realistic approach to match scheduling.
These switchovers of venue are common and occur regularly in cricket calendars because of multiple logistical and maintenance problems. Indian stadiums frequently experience renovations and the involved boards must ensure playing conditions are in line and safe for high-standard matches. In shifting a few games, the BCCI ensures the standard of play is consistently high and the safety of players and officials is ensured. It also assists in workload management for the grounds and provides additional cities an opportunity to host international cricket.
Delhi receives a decent combination this season. It will now be hosting a Test match against West Indies as well as an ODI match between India and Australia women's teams. It is a keen comeback to mainstream performance for the capital city as a cricket ground. In contrast Kolkata will now get the limelight with the India South Africa Test in November which is likely to be a closely fought match. New Chandigarh too upgrades as a newer ground assuming the onus of two ODIs which may increase interest in women's cricket in the area.
Fans are encouraged to keep an eye on the official BCCI announcements and match calendars as the season progresses. These types of changes can impact ticket bookings travel plans and broadcasting schedules. With big teams like West Indies South Africa and Australia involved the interest in these matches is naturally high. Each venue will aim to put on a good show and support the teams with full energy.
In short the BCCI has done a good job re-shuffling the venues but maintaining the cricketing frenzy across various regions of the country. The new changes have not deprived anyone of a match but just shifted it to a different city which is still propagating the sport and generating fan frenzy. Irrespective of whether it is a Test match or an ODI international cricket in India continues to be a thrill ride. Fans in Ahmedabad Delhi Kolkata Rajkot and New Chandigarh now have blockbuster games to anticipate and the new season guarantees top-notch action for cricket enthusiasts.
