BCCI Seeks to Implement Radical Changes After Border Gavaskar Trophy Loss and Dressing Room Leaks
Ever since India's loss of 3-1 against the Border Gavaskar Trophy and then the dressing room leaks, BCCI has undergone considerable reforms by bringing in personnel changes and tight touring protocols.

The Indian cricket team's below-par performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia has given rise to unprecedented fallout. While the loss was the game, what surprised everyone was the dressing room news leaks. These leaks after the series created a lot of furore. Reports stated that players were vying for the team's interim captain position. Another shock leak revealed that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir had blamed player Sarfaraz Khan for the embarrassing leaks.
Responding to the incidents, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to take action. The BCCI is all but going to end the contracts of three members of Gautam Gambhir's support staff. Abhishek Nayar, assistant coach, who joined the team barely eight months ago, is among the first ones to be sacked. Even though there has been no official announcement from the BCCI, the move is inevitable according to sources. A notice allegedly issued by the BCCI suggests that support staff who have been with the team for more than three years can also be let go from service. This would imply that fielding coach T Dilip and trainer Soham Desai, who have been part of the setup for three years, would also be leaving.
The BCCI has not issued any statements about replacements for Nayar and Dilip as yet. However, it is likely that Sitanshu Kotak, a domestic cricket legend, will stay with the team. Apart from that, Ryan ten Doeschate should take over the responsibilities that were done by Dilip. For Desai's role, Adrian Le Roux of the Punjab Kings of the IPL is likely to take over the role. Le Roux is a veteran one with vast experience in playing for Kolkata Knight Riders between 2008 and 2019, alongside spending some time playing with the Indian team from 2002 to 2003. He will be with the Indian team after the IPL.
Earlier, Gautam Gambhir had commented on the situation regarding leaked news by stating that personal talk that occurs within the dressing room should never reach the open. He indicated that performance is the only way to make sure that the players are not dropped and unrest reported should not be trusted. Gambhir made it clear that there will be conflicts among players and the coach, but they should not be made public and should not affect the team's morale. He also said that only committed and honest individuals should be part of the dressing room since their performances will determine their standing in the team.
Despite the negative news circulating, Gambhir was insistent that the focus should still be on the team-first culture. He explained that while the players must express their natural game, they must be willing to compromise in the sense of adapting to what the team needs and playing according to what will be best for the team's win. Finally, he stressed that it is the performance which is most important, and it is performance alone which will keep the players in the team.
These changes in the team support staff and Gambhir's remarks about maintaining professionalism and harmony in the dressing room are reflective of the high standards to which the BCCI holds the players and support staff accountable. The situation within the Indian cricket team following the loss at the Border Gavaskar Trophy has not just challenged the team's performance but also the authenticity of the internal mechanism. The leaks have surely created ripples, but more importantly now, it is time to restore the team's morale and ensure that whatever goes on in the dressing room remains within the dressing room. Only time will tell what role these changes play in developing the team for tomorrow.
