Bangladesh Optimistic Pre-Champions Trophy-Najmul Optimistic About the Ability of Team to Beat Any Team
Bangladesh is confident in the buildup to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto believing his team can challenge any side. The team intends to make an effective mark on the tournament.

Ahead of the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain is optimistic that his team has the capability to beat any team. As India is set to be their first match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Tigers are optimistic about a fine start and present themselves as the team to beat in the competition.
Positive Attitude and Positive Start
Najmul believes that Bangladesh can beat any team if they play out their game plan flawlessly. Although some teams might look favorites in the eyes of the crowd and the onlookers, their captain doesn't believe in favorites and underdogs in a tournament of the world's eight best cricket-playing countries.
"A winning start always lays the pattern, and all our desire is to get that initial success. We will play our best cricket," said Najmul to the media during the pre-match media conference. He said the Bangladeshi side is exactly well-equipped to this version of cricket and has the ability to go to the number one ranking. "Every single one of our players here has the potential to lift the trophy, but we are focusing on our own. If we play according to our plans as it is supposed to be, we can defeat any team on any given day," he claimed.
Bangladesh Banking on Their Pace Attack
Although they have been playing unevenly in recent matches—winning only 4 of the last 12 matches since the 2023 World Cup—Bangladesh will turn the tables in the Champions Trophy. Their bowling attack, headed by Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Shakib, and up-and-coming Nahid Rana, is bound to be a deciding factor.
Bangladesh was never so good earlier with regard to fast bowling, but the recent development is unbelievable to Najmul. "The past couple of years have seen us producing some good fast bowlers. Taskin and Nahid Rana, for example, are performing well, and their work can be game-changers. In the night games, if they can get to the correct spots, they will be an asset in a big way for our team," he added later.
Nahid Rana-The Speed Star on the Ascent
The squad's one of the bright hopes is Nahid Rana, who has left everyone stunned with his speed and consistency. Najmul has rated him as a top player who adds depth to Bangladesh's bowling with his experience.
"In the recent games, he has bowled superbly and at a good pace. Having such a young pacer like him play at this level is a morale booster to the whole bowling unit and makes us more confident. It's nice to see how we can pressurize the other team," Najmul said.
The paceman, a young guy, recently played in a Test match against India, which earned him valuable experience before their next match. "He does not think about the opposition so much but just how to employ his own game plan. If he is going to play a game tomorrow, I am sure he will play for the team," said the captain.
Najmul also stressed that Rana does not let pressure affect him even though there is a humongous expectation. "He is a silent player who keeps his mind clean. He has been playing well, and if he gets a chance, he will give his best," he further added.
The Opening Pair-Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar
The other key area of Bangladesh's performance will be their opening order. Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar will be doing the opening job, and their recent form suggests that they are in the correct mental state to go into the tournament.
Bangladesh recently completed the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), with veteran batsman Tamim Iqbal performing well. "Tamim performed well in the BPL and hopefully will do the same in this tournament. Soumya too performed well in the last two series. Even though he got injured in the West Indies, he has recovered well and trained for this tournament," Najmul said.
Adjusting to the Conditions
Najmul also emphasized getting used to the Dubai conditions, which might be slightly less scoring than in Pakistan. "We have played a Test recently in Pakistan in Rawalpindi, so we understand how the wicket plays. Being professional cricketers, we do know how and when to adjust our game," he added.
The side is eager to perform well at both their allotted grounds, and Najmul believes the side is in good spirits. "The boys are eager to play good cricket and impress in this tournament," he further added.
History Against India in ICC Events
Bangladesh have faced India a few times in ICC competitions with limited success. Their largest victory was in the 2007 World Cup where they recorded a fantastic upset. India have dominated their encounters ever since, though.
In the previous edition of the Champions Trophy held in 2017, India defeated Bangladesh in the semi-final and completed their tournament. Here again this time, Bangladesh is eager to turn the tables and achieve a much-awaited victory over their stern neighboring nations.
Aiming for Glory
Bangladesh go into the Champions Trophy with an infusion of youth and experience, looking to make their mark. Having a stable side behind them, an enhanced fast-bowling department, and grit in their hearts, they look to battle hard against the stronger teams.
Najmul's leadership and belief in his team will be most crucial as Bangladesh begin their campaign in the Champions Trophy. They will get tested by how good a campaign appears against India. If they strategize their moves with precision, as their captain believes, Bangladesh can pull off a surprise and target a record-breaker.
