Rohit Sharma Stand Unveiled at Wankhede Stadium
Mumbai Indians dedicate the "Rohit Sharma Stand" at Wankhede Stadium to tribute the great captain's efforts for the franchise and Indian cricket.

A stand at legendary Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has been given Rohit Sharma's name, Indian cricket captain and one of the most legendary cricketers this era has seen. The Mumbai Cricket Association recently formally inaugurated the Rohit Sharma Stand, an momentous occasion in his life. A function was organized on May 16, with the family members of Rohit Sharma and other dignitaries who were also being honored on the same day present.
Apart from Rohit Sharma's innings, two other innings have been dedicated to cricket legends who have made a difference to the game. One was dedicated to Sharad Pawar, a former MCA BCCI and ICC chairman, now a state minister, and another to Ajit Wadekar, a former Indian cricket captain. The MCA Office Lounge has also been inaugurated to remember the late Amol Kale, a former association president. It was an important ceremony to commemorate the contributions of such legends to the game of Mumbai cricket. Praising his words of gratitude, Rohit Sharma spoke about how lucky Wankhede Stadium has been for him.
He spoke about how the stadium came into his life the day he began his career. Rohit spoke about how Wankhede was the platform from where he had begun daydreaming of a cricketing career. He informed us that the crowd energy has always worked to energize him in games and that it is truly a humbling experience to have a stand dedicated to his name within this legendary ground. Rohit also accepted it to be a privilege to all the motivation and success that made his career unique and was highly grateful to the MCA for the privilege. MCA president Ajinkya Naik reminded that the association would like to preserve the cricketing legacy of Mumbai.
Naming the stands and lounge is a way of remembering the individuals who have made contributions towards the cricketing history of the city, he elaborated. As Wankhede Stadium completed five decades, Naik said that the time needed to maintain the essence of the game alongside not forgetting people who contributed towards its growth. MCA is going to take the commemoration of Mumbai cricket culture and growth at this iconic ground to the next stage. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a visitor to the ceremony, was of the view that the MCA must at least think of constructing a bigger stadium to hold more cricket fans.
He said they must put up a proposal before the state government and he would support the project. Fadnavis was of the view that Mumbai should have a more royal stadium because of the immense passion of the home cricket fans. He laid stress upon the need for a new stadium that can accommodate more than one hundred thousand spectators and challenge the city's passion for the game. Some cricket legends have been remembered at Wankhede Stadium previously, and stands there have also been dedicated in memory of legends such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Vijay Merchant.
But this is the anomaly of Rohit Sharma's dignity: he is playing today and doing so simultaneously, which makes the award even more memorable. Having a stand in one's name while continuing to serve Indian cricket is a unusual acknowledgment of one's skill and achievement. The Rohit Sharma Stand is more than a personal honor.
It is a testament to his work ethic, dedication, and pride he has brought to Indian cricket and Mumbai. It was a proud moment for Rohit, his family, his supporters, and anyone who has stood by him during thin and thick times. It is a testament to his achievement and an indication of how lasting an impact he has left on the game. As cricket in Mumbai develops further, the MCA is devoted to preserving the memory of its all-time greats and working to nurture the game's future in the city.
