KKR Coach Chandrakant Pandit Under Fire After Altercation with Foreign Star Over Eating Choice
Kolkata Knight Riders' coach Chandrakant Pandit finds himself under investigation after he allegedly had an argument with a foreign player about his meal preference during the IPL 2025 tournament.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have not managed to replicate the success they had last season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Though they had a good season last year, the team is currently struggling with only three victories out of nine games. Sitting 7th in the points table, KKR is uncertain about making it to the playoffs this time around. Even KKR’s pacer Harshit Rana has commented that the current season lacks the same energy and excitement the team had when former cricketer Gautam Gambhir was part of the coaching setup. This has raised several questions about the management style of the team's head coach, Chandrakant Pandit.
As per reports, there has been some tension between Pandit and one of the foreign players over a seemingly minor issue. The coach allegedly raised concerns after the player decided to have dinner with a member of a rival team. What Pandit apparently missed, however, was that the rival player was actually a national teammate of the foreign KKR star. This miscommunication between Pandit and the player has only served to fuel the increasing unease over the coach's style of dealing with team dynamics.
KKR had already experienced a change in their coaching arrangement following Gambhir's exit to join the Indian national team. He was accompanied by assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who left as well, resulting in team changes. But when Nayar was later dropped from the team, KKR wasted no time in bringing him back to the fold. Since Nayar's return, he has been playing a crucial part in guiding the players and assisting them in making the team plans work for them. This latest change in the support staff has brought about a sense of continuity, but it also brought into focus how much different the mood is in the team from last season.
While KKR players have expressed their gratitude towards Nayar and the work he did together with Gambhir, few players have spoken in favor of Pandit in similar terms. Even though he achieved success with the Madhya Pradesh team, guiding them to their first-ever Ranji Trophy title in 2022, his approach with KKR has yet to receive the same admiration. This has raised eyebrows among many wondering if the leadership style of Pandit is what the team needs, particularly given the challenges they have endured this season.
Harshit Rana's statement at a press conference highlights the same point even more. Though he appreciated the fact that KKR's support staff didn't change much, with the comeback of Nayar and the availability of seasoned cricketers such as Dwayne Bravo, he conceded that he missed the "thrill factor" which existed last season. Rana did not pinpoint anyone specifically but was very clear about the fact that the energy in the team was not the same as when Gambhir was around.
He also talked about Gambhir's special presence, how the former cricketer's leadership united the team. The presence that Gambhir had with him to the team was special and it inspired the players to give their best. Rana's words indicate how the team is finding it difficult to replace Gambhir's absence. His leadership and power to inspire the players cannot be easily substituted by anyone else.
The recent woes of KKR under Pandit's leadership have caused worry among fans and pundits alike. Pandit is undoubtedly a seasoned coach with a proven record, but his strategy in handling the KKR team has yet to produce the same kind of results that were experienced under Gambhir's leadership. As the season progresses, many will be paying close attention to how the coaching staff addresses these problems and if they can reverse things before it is too late.
In summary, though KKR have experienced some transitions in their management and coaching staff this season, the team has yet to rediscover the same energy that led them to the IPL trophy last season. With tensions building up between the coach and players, it is to be seen whether the team will be able to find the correct balance to return to form and qualify for the playoffs.
