Delhi Capitals Ready to Come Back Strong Against Rajasthan Royals
Delhi Capitals looks to bounce back with strength vs. Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 after solid showing with skipper Axar Patel at the helm. Can RR win for the turnaround season?

Delhi Capitals will be keen to get back to their winning track when they play Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Having lost a close game in their previous encounter against Mumbai Indians, Delhi's unbeaten run was finally broken. In spite of a gallant knock by Karun Nair during his comeback to the IPL, Delhi's middle-order failure and a late-order batting collapse handed Mumbai a 12-run win. This loss brought to the fore some areas of concern for DC to rediscover their form.
One of the major issues for Delhi is their showing against spin bowling. Although their batsmen have otherwise been in good form, they have lost the battle against the spinners over the last two seasons. Even with the best strike rate against spin throughout the tournament, Delhi's batting average against slow bowlers remains a cause of concern. It was especially a problem in their recent defeat when nine of the twelve wickets were taken by spin. The Kotla wicket is set to offer a bit of assistance to spinners, and thus Delhi will need to sort this weakness in the batting order out if they wish to recover.
Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have had similar problems with their spin batting. Their batsmen too have struggled with slower bowlers, and their average against spin is only slightly better than that of Delhi. Rajasthan's leading spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be a danger man for the Royals' top order. Yadav has been the most consistent bowler of the tournament, with a great economy rate and being hard to attack for any team. DC captain Axar Patel, on the other hand, has been able to trouble major Rajasthan batsmen such as Sanju Samson and Nitish Rana in the past. Patel's ability to hold back these players may be the key for Delhi in this match.
Though Rajasthan have not been particularly consistent with the bat this season, they are banking on the conditions at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium to get their act together. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer have been inconsistent, Jaiswal more so after not being able to capitalize on some good performances. Rajasthan's batting has not been inspiring much confidence, and the likes of Riyan Parag have failed to deliver as per the promise they showed last season. But Delhi's batting line-up still has its own weaknesses, especially since Faf du Plessis is injured. In his absence, Delhi will look to Jake Fraser-McGurk to step up, though his output has been disappointing till now in the season. Delhi will be expecting Karun Nair, after his brilliant comeback, to carry on and deliver the team some much-needed stability at the top.
The Kotla ground is likely to be conducive to high-scoring games. The small outfield, short boundaries, and flat pitch will most likely result in a run-fest, benefiting the batting sides. Dew will play an important part, and the chasing team is likely to have the upper hand. Both teams will have to adjust to the conditions quickly, particularly in dealing with the dew and using the second new ball.
The head-to-head between the two teams has been closely fought, with Rajasthan Royals slightly ahead of Delhi Capitals. Delhi, however, has enjoyed a better record on home soil, having won six out of the nine games between the two teams at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This provides Delhi with an added boost as they gear up to host the Royals on home soil.
In the case of Delhi, the success mantra will be to get off to a good beginning with the bat and improving their game against spin. The bowling of the team, especially Mukesh Kumar, will be important in keeping Rajasthan's openers in check and making sure that the Royals' batting line-up does not get off to a good start. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel will be the deciding factors in bowling for Delhi when it comes to applying pressure on Rajasthan's middle order and not allowing them to form partnerships.
Rajasthan, however, will be depending heavily on their pace attack, especially Sandeep Sharma, who has been quite successful against Delhi in the past. His early wicket-taking ability will be crucial for the Royals if they are to set Delhi back on their heels. With Jofra Archer and Maheesh Theekshana included in the lineup, Rajasthan's bowling seems sound, but their batsmen need to perform if they are going to take on Delhi's dominant lineup.
Both teams will have their work cut out for them as the match nears. Delhi will have to put behind their recent loss and work on improving their batting against spin, while Rajasthan will look to develop some consistency in their batting and make the most of the conditions at the Kotla. With both teams possessing strengths and weaknesses, it should be an intriguing contest at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
